I have two views regarding in the film SALO, as a Horror film devotee and as a student.
Honestly, as a horror-flick-devotee; I was so convinced, in the point that I couldn’t eat afterwards. It was so great, it quivers me a lot. I was acutely sensitized to the moments of pain, as if I could feel that I was also one of the victims in that movie. I can’t stop my eyes to cry.
In this film, the pornographic scenes was not that persuasive but the violence is much more convincing; Horror isn't portrayed horrible enough but the portrayal of violence made me enough to think if that movie really is true. Questions in my mind were turning back and forth which made me realize how sick it is to make horror and violence into entertainment.
The film is sane. It gives me more questions in my mind; thinking if this movie which is made in the earlier years is just a mock that gives me thrill or is this really is true and an anti-Christ film. What a movie is to be made. A movie that should never have HAD to be made…………... but it did.
On the other hand, as an art-apprentice and an art-lover, I felt very excited; feeling that the movie was a very interesting one, another film that we can call “Aesthetics”. A movie that can give me more knowledge about art, another film that can amuse me, that can give me a new concept of art, a movie that can be appreciated as a form of art and can be compared to the documentary –The naked world- but I was wrong, it was so very sickening.
While I was watching the movie, I couldn’t stop to giggle because of the reactions of my classmates –trying to laugh altering the sentiment of fear. At first, honestly, I like the movie but it was full confusion in the part that I can’t take it anymore. While the movie was leading to the middle part of the film, in the part that the victims was tortured, treated as dogs, my stomach quiver in the intense that I would like to vomit because of its scenes of intensely sadistic graphic violence -especially when one of the Four men of power offered a food to a girl which is full of nails- I felt pity on that one.
In my confusion, I was trying to cope up, understanding if what the movie really is. The movie was so far from aesthetics, it is humiliating, aggressive, disgusting, and most of all it is really convincing for me as a horror film devotee. While watching the movie, I was full of fear. Hoping that wouldn’t happen in true to life.
After all, it was a perfect film metaphor. So affecting and so convincing.
