Reaction Paper
I have three views regarding on the documentary I saw, simply because I’m a Filipino, a man and an artist.
As a Filipino, Spencer’s making some improper actions; taking nude pictures and inviting people to post in public places which is somehow, forbidden here in the Philippines. It is really wrong to post on a public place because there are people here in the Philippines that are still conservative and some people thinks that it is too filthy and aggressive. Even if it is now on the time that we could say, everyone’s open minded, there are still people who are very prim.
Somehow, as a man who is packed of wisdom, it looks like he wants to say something thru his pictures. When I was watching that documentary film, I hear some great words that can explain why Spencer was doing it. An example of that is the state of an African man that “even if we’re in different colors, we are still the same”. I was also amazed on a picture he had taken with a slogan saying “my sense of freedom”. For me, even if we have different religion, we are still praising one God, whether you’re rich or indigent, we are still the same but the most of all; I was amazed on a woman who asked Spencer if what is his occupation, then after Spencer said that “I’m an Artist”, she replied “everyone is an artist”. It was really great to hear that thing.
Well, speaking of an artist, for me, I felt pity, not for Spencer but for those people who tried to stop him from expressing his freedom. But still I was really amazed that a person like him would travel the seven continents just to take nude pictures. Wow, what a great idea. It gives me more excitement to discover new wonders of art, to enjoy, to create and to appreciate.
On that documentary, while watching it, I saw my self on those people who would post their naked body just to make a meaningful picture, an Obra Maestro, Maybe because only this year, last January 20, 2008, on our CARACOL festival, I was walking in the parade wearing only underwear covered with body paint. It was so embarrassing, feeling that I’m walking without any piece of clothes but I had enjoyed it because after all, we were the champion.
And if Spencer would invite me to post on his picture, I would be honored to do that.
